I was bored so as a normal human being my mind wandered and suddenly I found myself contemplating about life. Looking back, in my 31 years of existence, it seems like the more I get older the more complex life gets. Now, why is that? It’s like being in an episode of who wants to be a millionaire, it gets difficult as you progress into each level. I am pretty sure there is some kind of an explanation, anything! Just give me any---tthhaaanngg!! And then bam! I have come across the second law of thermodynamics which is Entropy. Buckle up ladies and gents because I am about to science this shit out.
The simplest definition of entropy I found is that it is a measure of the disorder of the universe. Furthermore, the law states that, as one goes forward in time, the net entropy (degree of disorder) of any isolated or close system will increase (or at least stay the same). So, this means life always gravitate towards disorder and as time progress the more disorganise it gets. In theory, say for example your room, without regular tidying and cleaning it will become messier and dustier over time. Hence, as time pass by the entropy of your room increases. So next time someone judges you because of your messy room just blame it to entropy. Where is this law when my mom was hitting me with a broom stick because my room was messy? “Mom it’s not me okay it’s just Physics”, pretty sure it will not save me from getting beat up but still. Another good example is when you drop a blue dye in a clear water eventually over time the dye will disperse out causing the colour of the water to change. Entropy happens all the time we just do not notice it because to us it is just something normal that happens on our day to day life. It can be as mundane as your hot coffee turning cold, wrinkles forming, hair turns grey or can be as extreme like business failing, relationships weaken and ends and everything at a given time will eventually decay. It seems that the law of Physics is against us, as time goes the more fucked up it gets, welcome to 2020 guys! Just like you, it blew my mind too. I never thought there will be a technical term for this phenomenon all these years I just call it “it is what it is” or “it’s just natural” or “he is a dickhead!”. Entropy is way more than just a law of energy this can be applied to everything: politics, business and to our lives.
I guess entropy is the universes way of laughing at our faces. The pull of entropy is relentless that disorder always increase in time and that everything will eventually decay and fall apart. However, as humans we always have an option and you have guessed it! – we can either fight or give in. If random people can put a man on the moon I am pretty sure I can put a twinkle in this chaos! So, I dug deeper, then came “The Butterfly Effect”, tadah! To simplify the butterfly effect is a term used to describe how small changes can have big effects on the output. Clearly, we have to do something NOW to mitigate the effect of entropy on our future. How? Through Simple small changes like deciding never to purchase single-use plastics will help save the environment, training staff and providing incentives will lessen a companies turnover, proving care and attention to our love one’s will strengthen our relationship. If we accept the fact that disorder always increases then we can make changes that will impact the trajectory of our life. It’s all about progress my friend, it is all about making through the next level. Now who wants to be a millionaire?!! I do!
If you are bold and strong enough then maybe you can choose to start all over again. In our life we have been through multiple highs and lows, we have fallen from grace, tragedy happened but all those hurdles shaped us to this resilient person that we are now. Admit it, through every pain, failure and chaos something wonderful always arise. The truth is things does happen for a reason we can blame Entropy or whoever we want but we cannot expect everything to stay the same. If we imagine a life where in no one ages, no one gets ill and everything is just pristine then there will be no innovation, compassion or noble deeds. Maybe life is just all about thriving and not just surviving. Maybe this time we can aim for stability, structure, simplicity, kindness and love. Every single positive action now can change our future. Maybe in life it’s all about the progress and never about perfection.
